This page explains how we research, calculate and compare.

Research

We start from a reader question, then gather prices, official data, company and government publications, and other reliable sources. We record the date and market (for example, United States or Canada) for every price and figure that can change.

Calculations and estimates

We show the inputs, formulas and assumptions behind a calculation.

We state when a number is an estimate and give a range when a single figure would be misleading.

We use clear scenarios (for example, budget, mid-range and premium) rather than a single “typical” case.

Comparisons

We compare products and options on cost, value, durability and total cost of use where data allows. We do not claim to have tested a product unless we have.

Currency and units

Figures are in US dollars unless stated. When we use Canadian dollars or other currencies, we say so.

Limits

Our figures are informational. Real costs vary by place, season, provider and personal choices. To report a mistake, email alpinismpeakhub@gmail.com.
